Our school values strong partnerships with our community.
Student readiness for transitioning in, and out, of Rivendell School, is greatly increased when opportunities for community engagement are offered. Not only do our partnerships create diverse experiences for students, but ultimately allow Rivendell School the opportunity to give back to the broader community.
Alive and Kicking
Inner West Neighbour Aid (IWNA) is a community where seniors connect and share their knowledge to lead active, social and independent lives. Our partnership with IWNA provides the opportunity for students to volunteer and provide support during intergenerational activity sessions. This may include:
- seated or standing gentle exercise and movement
- brain training games
- healthy ageing
- guest speakers
- art and craft
- personal storytelling
St Merkorious Charity
A partnership with this charity was established in 2024 around student interest in community involvement.
St Merkorious prepare and distribute fresh meals and food hampers to support families facing food insecurity across Sydney’s inner west and beyond.
Our students volunteer and work alongside the St Merkorious team, helping pack pantry essentials and help prepare and pack fresh meals. It is a valuable learning experience for students helping develop both teamwork and task ownership skills in a large, real-world kitchen environment whilst giving back to the community.
The Rivendell transition expo
Every year Rivendell School hosts a transition expo where staff, students, their carers and families come and meet professionals from a variety of industries and organisations. These external providers work to support successful transition in the areas of education, employment, independent living, community involvement and personal and social relationships.
