Our extra-curricular highlights
Sport
Physical activity is fundamental to young people’s development and wellbeing. Rivendell School offers students a wide variety of sporting activities that encourage healthy, active and fun lifestyle.
In addition to our core curriculum Health and Physical Education program, students participate in whole school sport on a weekly basis. Our sports program continually evolves, with sports changing each term to provide a diverse range of experiences for our students. From basketball to soccer, kayaking to taekwondo, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and explore.
Lunch time activities
During lunch times, our dedicated staff hold different activites for the students to participate in.
These activities change depending on students' interests and ultimately promote social engagement as well as physical and mental wellbeing.
Art therapy
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the use of art making as a tool to enable self-expression and communication in a safe and therapeutic context. Students can use their imagination and creativity to engage in therapeutic self-reflection which may be otherwise difficult to verbalise. The art therapist and student work together to facilitate the exploration of feelings, improve self-awareness and reduce anxiety.
Music production workshops
Students participating in the Rivendell music production program explore multiple aspects of music making, including songwriting, composition, beat-making, audio production and live recording. Students develop professional audio recordings, of both original songs and cover versions, across a diverse range of genres. Completed music is compiled on our biannual music compilations, which are accessible by students, staff and families on the Rivendell School Bandcamp website. Student work is also featured in our end of year Creative and Performing Arts evening and other end-of-year events.
Friday workshops
Rivendell School facilitates weekly workshop sessions for
students on a Friday afternoon. Covering a range of activities and interest areas, the workshops provide students with an opportunity to engage in small group activities and improve their social skills.
A selection of past workshops include: scrapbooking, sport, music, study group, card marking, photography, tile art, macrame, drama, board games.
Gardening
Most programs at Rivendell School have established their own gardens where students actively plan, propagate, maintain and harvest different vegetables and plants.
These established gardens are also used as a springboard for other curricula and interest activities. For example: health, science, healthy living, cooking, lifeskills, and SRC led initiatives.
Surfing
Students have the opportunity to attend the local wave pool at URBNSURF Sydney. This offers students a unique opportunity to particpate in water safety activites as well as guided bodyboarding and surf lessons. These sessions help develop a student's confidence in the water whilst increasing mindfulness and social connections.
