Uniform
Rivendell School has a 'Student Dress Code', there is no compulsory uniform.
The 'Student Dress Code' adheres to policy requirements, particularly around safety and anti- discrimination.
It also reflects community expectations that this school is primarily focused on the successful transition for students, back to referring schools or other learning environments. Therefore, beyond policy requirements, the ‘Student Dress Code’ also reflects our shared expectations around attire that demonstrates ‘school readiness’, beyond Rivendell School.
It has been developed in consultation with students, families and our broader community (including the Rivendell Health team).
Rivendell School Dress Code
- closed toe shoes, preferably sneakers (safety)
- shorts, skirts/dresses, toward mid-thigh length (school readiness)
- no clothing with offensive logos, slogans or image (psychological safety and schoolreadiness)
- shirts which cover the shoulders and have minimal v-line at the front and back (sun safety)
- shirts that cover below the waistline (school readiness)
- no pyjamas (school readiness)
- no stiletto finger nails (safety)
- no large jewellery, such as large hoop earrings (safety)
- no studded accessories, which can accidentally injure others (safety)
- students are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen (safety)
There are many positive benefits afforded to students by having a ‘Student Dress Code’, rather than a school uniform. For example, supporting sensory needs, individual expression and student agency.
It is our shared responsibility - staff, students, families and community - to uphold this dress code, so we can ensure our students are safe learners, equipped to engage in Rivendell School life and beyond.
