Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support

Rivendell support dogs
At Rivendell School, we have support dogs to enhance student wellbeing, emotional regulation and learning. This initiative aligns with The Rivendell Way — our unique, research-informed, approach to education.
Aboriginal garden
Rivendell School, in partnership with the Sydney Local Health District and Aboriginal Land Council, have designed an Aboriginal garden within the estate of Thomas Walker Hospital. This culturally safe space is designed to honour the traditions, knowledge and connection to Country. It serves not only as a space to share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge but a living classroom for students.
This garden is a place for reflection, healing, gathering and education which fosters community connections and student wellbeing.
Breakout and quiet spaces
Rivendell School has a variety of quiet spaces designed to provide students with a safe and calming environment. These spaces are designed for:
Emotional regulation: To provide a space where students can manage strong emotions and de-escalate when they are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed.
Sensory regulation: To offer a retreat from noisy and overstimulating environments, which is particularly beneficial for students who are sensitive to sensory input.
Self-management: To allow students to practice self-regulation skills in a safe, non-punitive environment so they can return to their learning activities when ready.
Anti-bullying
Bullying of any kind is not acceptable in NSW schools.
The NSW anti-bullying website brings together information and resources for teachers, students, parents and carers. It helps to identify, prevent and respond effectively to student bullying, including online bullying. It provides information about online safety and what you can do if your child has been bullied, witnessed bullying or been involved in bullying.
Refer to below resources for more information on racial bullying, anti-racism education and anti-bullying strategies in NSW public schools.
