Did you know November 24th is Fairy Bread Day?
The Lawson program hosted their own Fairy Bread Day celebration in support of Reach Out’s goal to raise awareness of their online support available to young people experiencing mental health issues. The day also aims to sprinkle kindness, through friends gathering to channel their inner child and share memories of birthday parties past.
Students prepared their own fairy bread in a COVID-safe manner, sprinkling 100s and 1000s onto buttered bread. Following tradition, we then cut the bread into small triangles.
A class discussion followed, in which kind comments were shared among students, teachers and SLSOs and we explored ways we can pay compliments and check-in on friends.
Fun Fact: Fairy bread dates back to the 1920s in Australia, with The Hobart Mercury describing it as a children’s party food. Currently only eaten in Australia and New Zealand, the childhood “taste sensation” is slowly making inroads in the USA, courtesy of Aussie expats.
We all have our own special way to make fairy bread, but here is how we prepared ours.
